According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, work has changed dramatically over the last few decades. Work has become more flexible, but also less stable and more time-consuming. In 1973, 26% of Americans say they work 48+ hours a week, and although companies now provide more benefits to aid work-life balance, such as remote work options, businesses are spending less on employee investment, and gaining larger payouts. Although workers have more control and flexibility, they are now acting like free agents in the job market, and are less entertained by the safety net that once came with full-time work.
