Myth: You have to be wealthy to join a nonprofit board.

Fact: Not all nonprofit boards are alike.

Being involved with several of NPR’s clients and sitting in on board meetings, I found these two statements to stand out in Joan Garry’s recent article, “Why Everyone Should Join a Nonprofit Board.”  Garry discusses some of the reasons why people may misconstrue the value of being  on a nonprofit board member and continues to indulge us with 10 reasons on why we should all join. Here are just a few:

1. You will learn patience
2. You will learn how to ask for money
3. You will have an experience that enriches your resume
